Residential Energy Efficiency Program (REEP) in Houston, TX

In partnership with Centerpoint Energy and the City of Houston, Direct Energy provides weatherization products and services aimed at reducing residential energy consumption of primarily low-income single family homes.

  • Since the program began, Direct Energy has installed energy efficiency measures in over 4,000 homes. The objective was to reduce the overall energy usage of Metro Houston by providing free energy efficiency measures to homes greater than 30 years old
  • The City of Houston claims an average reduction in energy usage of 19.1 per cent or 229 kilowatt hours (kWh) on an average monthly consumption of 1,200 kWh (annual saving of $412.56 based on $0.15/kWh)
  • As a result of Direct Energy’s marketing expertise, neighborhood participation rates have exceeded 60 per cent of all single family households representing a significant increase over prior programs
  • The REEP program currently upgrades 275-300 homes per month—with a planned increase of up to 500 homes by mid-2009

Our president and CEO, Chris Weston, recently visited some of the REEP staff on the job:
