Energy Assessment Process
In order to qualify for an ecoENERGY Retrofit grant from the Governments of Canada and Alberta you need to have a home energy assessment completed by a Certified Energy Advisor before replacing, installing or completing upgrade renovations that are recommended.
Step 1
Call 406-232-1155 in Calgary or 780-483-3056 in Edmonton to speak with one of our eco-specialists.
Step 2
First Assessment – An ecoENERGY assessment takes approximately 2 hours to complete. The advisor will need access to the entire house including attic, crawl space, heating and cooling equipment or any other hard to reach areas. The first energy assessment is $275.00. You will receive a $100.00 rebate from the Province of Alberta to help offset this cost.
Step 3
ecoENERGY Report - will be mailed to your home within approximately 2 weeks containing recommendations on how to improve the energy efficiency of your home. This is a comprehensive report including federal Government Grant amounts for each recommended change. The Government of Alberta and some Local Governments provide some grants in addition to the Federal ecoENERGY grants available from the Government of Canada.
Step 4
Energy Efficiency Upgrades - After reviewing your ecoENERGY report you may choose to complete all, some or none of the recommendations it contains. You can do the upgrade work yourself or hire a contractor. You should document your renovations with receipts, photos and product literature to ensure you get full credit for all improvements.
Step 5
Second Assessment – Please call 403-232-1155 in Calgary and 780-483-3056 in Edmonton to schedule your second assessment within 18 months of your initial assessment and after having completed all of your planned upgrades. The cost of the second ecoENERGY assessment is $150.00. You will also receive a $100 rebate from the Alberta Government to help offset the cost of this assessment. If you have a need for more time, you can then apply for an additional 18 months to complete your energy efficiency upgrades. After this second 18-month window, you must have a third and final assessment completed at a cost of $150.00. No provincial rebate is currently available for this assessment.
Step 6
Grant Cheques - The Government of Canada will rebate up to $5,000.00 for your energy efficient upgrades. The more upgrades you make, the more money you’ll get back. You can expect to receive your federal ecoENERGY grant cheque within 90 days of your second energy assessment. Your provincial rebate cheque(s) will follow depending on the upgrades you complete. Some provincial and local government rebates require a separate application. Your Direct Energy Certified Energy Advisor will provide all the details on any rebates that you must apply for separately.
