Q: Can I trust that Direct Energy is a safe and reliable company?
A: Direct Energy has been registered as a gas marketer with the Manitoba Public Utilities Board for 10 years. We are an independent Gas Marketer and are required to follow the code of conduct for gas marketers in the province of Manitoba.
Q: I was informed that it might be cheaper to opt for a marketer. Is this actually the case?
A: The fixed rates that Direct Energy is currently offering with our Price Protection Program may or may not be slightly cheaper than what the local utility's fluctuating rate may be at the time of signing. The Price Protection Program, which we are offering, is at a fixed rate for a 5 year period, which means that your commodity rate will not increase for 5 years even though the utility's commodity rate fluctuates up and down every 3 months.
Q: Are you affiliated with my local utility and who will send my bill?
A: Direct Energy is not affiliated with any local utility. You will continue to be billed by your local utility, but the primary natural gas portion of your bill will be priced at your Price Protection rate.
Q: I have signed a fixed term agreement, but can I cancel my agreement prior to completing the fixed term?
A: After signing the enclosed agreement, you will have a 10 business day cancellation option. After that, you and Direct Energy have entered into a binding contract for 5 years. We are confident that you will enjoy the peace of mind that comes with Direct Energy's Price Protection Program.
Q: Will I receive notification when my contract expires or will I be automatically renewed?
A: Direct Energy will notify you in advance of your contract expiry.
For contracts entered into after June 1, 2004, you will not be automatically renewed.
Q: What am I paying for with Direct Energy?
A: You will be paying for the part of natural gas which has been deregulated. This is the primary gas portion on your gas bill.
